A Coptic Orthodox clergyman visits the Met Museum’s Africa and Byzantium and reads/sings an 8th-century manuscript on display:

@metmuseum

“To see it in person, it’s living” ✨ Daniel Girgis understands what it means for the past to come alive. A second generation Egyptian American and clergyman of the Coptic Orthodox Church, his many passions include Coptic—the language of ancient Egypt that today survives in the liturgy of the Coptic Church. When we invited Daniel to visit “Africa & Byzantium,” he was immediately drawn to the Pentaglot Psalter, on loan from the Vatican Apostolic Library, where each page is transcribed in five different languages. Listen as he reads and chants the Coptic translation of Psalm 1, on folio 3r of the Psalter on display in the exhibition. #MuseumTok #LearnOnTikTok #CopticOrthodox

  1. I wish Hrag would go one step beyond and publish his informed referenced data on why there’s such an effort to ban TikTok. Although I see TIkTok as just another form of social media like Facebook attempting with algorithms to addict us keeping our brains glued to our palm held devices all the while dumbing us down. Hyperallergic does a lot of good. Opinions should be labeled opinions and not news.
